Nitrous Oxide - Laughing Gas
Nitrous oxide has been used widely in the medical and dental profession for more than 150 years. Not only is it safe and effective, it has virtually no side effects and its effects wears off within minutes after it is no longer administered.
Nitrous Oxide: Safe for Children and Adults
The anxiety that the thought of a dentist visit invokes in some people makes their other senses heightened. So they feel everything "more" than the non-anxious person would, including pain. Nitrous oxide eliminates the anxiety when used properly. It even eliminates pain with the proper technique. For these reasons, nitrous oxide is very useful and highly recommended in treating children and fearful or anxious adults.
Nitrous Oxide: Common Uses
Nitrous oxide has many applications and uses.
For children that sit through an initial dental exam and cleaning comfortably, nitrous oxide is great when it comes to getting a cavity fixed. With use of nitrous oxide, the child feels the anesthetic "pinch" considerably less. And since they are more relaxed about what is happening in their mouths, they are very comfortable. Plus the dental treatment proceeds faster so they are done more quickly.
For adults, nitrous oxide can be used during any type of dental procedure. The choice is up to the patient.
